Sew N Sow

As a ministry of Faith Church, under the umbrella of Faith Church’s 3G, Sew N Sow has grown out of the ongoing need for supplying baby quilts to the Cumberland Crisis Pregnancy Center. Women gather quarterly for a taste of old fashioned fellowship around sewing machines, irons, and scraps of fabric to “sew” quilt squares that will “sow” the love of Christ into the lives of women and families experiencing a crisis pregnancy.

Sewing experience is not necessary to participate in this ministry, however. There is always a need for helpers who can iron, cut with scissors, or sort fabric scraps into different piles of color, shape, and size. The main thing is for each woman attending to come with a heart willing to assist in some way, and to have some fun while doing it.

Yet attendees are encouraged to try their hand at sewing a seam or two on a sewing machine if they want to. No fancy skills are needed to sew with this group. In fact, one of the instructors told a participant, “If you can drive a car by putting your foot on the gas pedal and steering, you are skilled enough to sew with us!” Indeed, experienced seamstresses team with first-time or novice sewers to complete a different block style each quarter. The blocks are then sewn together to form bright, scrappy quilt tops, sometimes in the same day that the blocks were completed. Often participants can see how their work will look in a finished baby quilt.

Quarterly Sew N Sow meetings are traditionally held in January, April, July, and October on the third or fourth Saturday from 9:30 AM until early afternoon. If you own a sewing machine, you are encouraged to bring it. Please call the church off for further details.
