Midweek Missive from Pastor Chris

Greetings and Salutations to all my Faith peeps . . .

What a beautiful weekend!!  Gorgeous weather . . . accomplished home tasks . . . budding flowers and trees . . . good moods and good food (mostly).  Only one thing was missing — that was YOU!  I miss you!  While I’m enjoying the slow-down time with family, I MISS being with you, worshiping and fellowshipping with you.

This email today is an unfortunate, but necessary message to let you know that we are continuing to monitor and comply with CDC, WHO, and government recommendations for quarantine and social-distancing.  As we foresaw, the president and Gov. Lee has extended the quarantine to April 30.  While it is painful to think about, we will follow along.  The elders and trustees have met via “Zoom-Messaging” this week and have agreed that is in the best interest of our church and our community to comply with the extension . . . now targeting Sunday, May 3 to be our next gathering time (hopefully).

Faith Family, I hate this.  I really do.  The assembling of the saints for worship is one of the prime joys I have in this life.  However, I agree (along with the other elders) this is the best cause of action.

In the meantime, what we NEED from you . . .
  • Through whatever (electronic) medium you choose, stay in regular contact with friends and Faith family members
  • Start a reading program through a book of the Bible
  • Check out Pastor’s Pandemic Bible Challenge sent last week (see ATTACHED)
  • Turn OFF the news media and the electronics for a little while.  Make a cup of coffee, pick up a novel, and get lost in another world. I’m in an old Grisham novel right now that I’m thoroughly enjoying.  You’ll be surprised what a good book and a good nap will do for the body and mind.
  • GIVE!  Please, the church still needs your tithes and offerings.  We understand that giving is going to be lower if your salary has lessened.  But your obedience in giving, even when times are tough, is still a necessary act of our faith.  Please don’t hesitate to call or message me if you have questions in this area.  Ways to give include: working with your bank for direct deposit, signing up with Pay Pal on our website, or mailing a check to:  Faith Church, 661 S. Water, Gallatin, TN 37066
  • Don’t forget your kid’s spiritual nourishment.  Steve and Jessie are going to be sending you and your kids info for Bible study.  Work on it with them and hold them accountable to finish.
  • Pray!  (see ATTACHED Prayer & Scripture Guide bookmark)  Why does this always seem to be the last thing we try?  How about reversing the order of this bullet list and begin here.  Prayer will help so much in re-aligning priorities and altering our life perspective.

In the meantime, how we will SERVE you . . .

  • Continued on-line Sunday services.  This week will include a seasonal sermon for Palm Sunday with praise and worship from the Rouse House Band, including new addition Beau on acoustic guitar  (special things in the works for later worship participation)
  • Further Facebook devotions from the “Rouse House Devotional” series
  • Continued “Midweek Missives” each week
  • I’m also considering a Wed. night “ZOOM” Bible study.  It would start next week and be an opportunity for weekly study and to see more familiar faces through your computer screen
  • We’re going to do everything we can to stay in contact with you.  But remember, you can always reach out to your fellow brothers & sisters too.  We need each other!

A word here for you that have been temporarily laid off from your job or facing the income-crunch of lessened hours . . . we can help you.  Please let us (me, Pastors Billy or Russ, or your Life Group leader) know if you are having difficulty paying bills, stocking your cupboards, or meeting basic financial or health requirements for your family.  We are prepared to assist but cannot if you don’t inform us of your situation.

For those of you struggling with anger, anxiety, and fear, we share your struggle and stand ready to assist with counsel, ministry, and the bearing of one another’s burdens.  Keep in mind, while the whole world seems to be overcome with these fears, this is a great opportunity for us to give evidence as to how truly “different” and “set apart” we are.  We are NOT of this world.  While we suffer the longings and anticipation of restoration with the rest of creation, our hope is still hope . . . our faith is still faith . . . for certain, but not visible and not yet realized.

Let us not shrink back in fear.  Let us continue to press on.  Let us “HOLD FAST” to our faith without wavering, for HE WHO PROMISED is FAITHFUL!!!

In the good times and bad, He is faithful and you are loved.  Don’t forget the attachments as well as these songs for “thankful” worship:

— To God Alone Be the Glory!!
